Old Man Winter brought a white Christmas to much of the northern half of the United States which may be a blessing or a curse depending on your point of view. Images released by the National Operational Hydrologic Remote Sensing Center show that many areas that wouldn’t normally expect snow are covered in a blanket of white this Christmas. Hundreds of U.S. holiday travellers faced the prospect of spending Christmas Eve trapped in airport terminals as the United States dug out from a barrage of snow and ice storms. Hundreds of holiday travelers spent the night in the nation’s second busiest airport and others faced delayed or canceled flights and highways choked by snow and ice as storms kept up their assault on northern states. Snow and ice ruined travel plans for thousands of people across the country this past Sunday. Most northern states, such as Washington and Maine, were affected as numerous storm fronts produced winter weather. BEIJING (Reuters) – A sudden drop in temperatures and heavy snow across parts of northern China has caused roads to close and ferries to be canceled, and the cold is expected to head further south later in the week, state media said on Monday. Winter storms walloped much of the northern stretches of the United States on Sunday, leaving holiday travelers stranded and causing power outages as blizzards and freezing rain struck parts of the East and West. We visited some projects in northern California that are threatened by the funding cutoff. The Department of Commerce today upheld the California Coastal Commission’s objection to a proposal to construct a 16-mile toll road connecting California state Route 241 to Interstate 5 in southern Orange and northern San Diego counties.
